Throughout the 1920's and '30's, Greta Garbo was an actress with a strong emotional, mysterious screen presence, in both silent and sound films. Greta was a versatile actress who was known for drama and comedies.

She received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in ANNA CHRISTIE, which was her first "talkie".

Greta Garbo's defining role was in MGM's 1935 ANNA KARENINA, where she played a woman torn between two lovers and her son. Other notable films include: "Grand Hotel," "Camille," and "Ninotchka."

She was born Greta Lovisa Gustafson in Stockholm, Sweden in 1905. Greta Garbo had two nicknames: "The Face" and "The Swedish Sphinx." She died on April 15, 1990. More
