Although a big star since the 1940's, Jimmy Stewart made many great films in the 1950's, frequently under the direction of Alfred Hitchcock.

Stewart's defining role was in "Vertigo", as a private eye obsessed with a beautiful woman, played by Kim Novak. Notable films include: "The Philadelphia Story" (Best Actor Award), "It's a Wonderful Life," and "Rear Window."

Jimmy Stewart served with distinction in the Air Force in World War II, and generally lived up to his nice guy image in real life. He died in 1997. More
