Sean Connery in "Time Bandits"
|
"When you're with Sean, you learn pretty quickly what your own place in the galaxy is-and it pales," said Kevin Costner. This daring Double O-Seven has contributed much more to the film industry than just good looks and action flicks. His raw talent and rare luck, (oh yeah, did we mention skill?), helped him to perfectly define a role, and transcend it as well. He perfected James Bond, and as is evident, no one has been able to replace him in the later series. It's because of this infamous role that he had such a successful later career. Smaller films, like "A Fine Madness" (1966), and even flops, like "Cuba" (1979), and "Wrong Is Right" (1982), have been easily forgiven because the public knew the talent was there and that other blockbusters were coming. "The Man Who Would Be King" (1975), and "Robin and Marian" (1976), are some of his finer roles, despite their late arrival in his career. Then, he continued to dumbfound us in small but spectacular roles, where he portrayed their significance, in such films as "Indiana Jones And the Last Crusade" (1989), and "Robin Hood, Prince Of Thieves" (1992). As with the latter, blink and you may miss him, but see it and you will be left breathless. He just has a way of leaving such a strong impression on the audience, no matter how small the role. His other unbowed hero-flicks are "The Untouchables" (1987), "Dr. NO" (1962), and "The Russia House" (1990). (CD) |
