PLOT SUMMARY...
The Federation's plan to force peaceful natives to leave their Fountain of Youth planet turns Captain Picard into an armed rebel.

QUICK SCAN...
Director Frakes delivers familiar, if uninspiring, Sci-Fi entertainment. The all computer generated FX, a first in the "Trek" movie series, are impressive. The Fountain of Youth story-line is limply presented. Frakes looks different without his beard!

Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek: Generations
Star Trek 4

The Federation makes a deal, with bad aliens, to transport residents off their Fountain of Youth planet. Captain Picard objects.

On the planet, Picard and company join forces with the ancient but cute locals. Battles are fought against flying droids with transporter beams.

Number One does battle in space with the chief alien bad guy, to the death. Triumphant, Picard must leave his new girlfriend, at least for now.

Review:

Producer/Director Stanley Donen's SATURN 3 is a pretty good, if not memorable, Sci-Fi tale.

Kirk Douglas ("Spartacus", "Tough Guys"), who was approaching sixty when he made this film, displays his customary energy and vitality. He has good chemistry with co-star Farrah Fawcett and gives an even, well modulated performance under Donen's confident Direction.

Farrah Fawcett ("Charlie's Angels"), who later became a decent actress, is mostly required to display youthful attractiveness, which she does nicely. Fans will appreciate a brief glimpse at one small, but pert breast.

The Screenplay, by Martin Amis, (Story by John Barry), has a fair amount of flat dialogue. Harvey Keitel, ("Pulp Fiction"), recently arrived at the moon base, comes on to Farrah Fawcett with the lines, "You have a beautiful body. May I use it?"

The robot in this film is rather good. Why it would need blood-like fluid in its tubes is not adequately explained, but it's still a memorable screen robot, almost in the same league as the "Terminator" robot, after its skin is removed. My favorite scene is the robot's construction, by Keitel, from individual modules.

The Music here is the familiar, upbeat, heroic stuff. Elmer Bernstein gets credit, if that's the word, for the generic score.

SATURN 3 will be fairly watchable for most Sci-Fi fans. Fawcett and Douglas fans will enjoy this one.
