STARS...
Michael J. Fox, Christopher
Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Thomas
F. Wilson, Elisabeth Shue, and Charles Fleischer.
PLOT SUMMARY...
Marty McFly travels to the future, the 1950's, and points in between.
This time, Marty loses an artifact from the future, with disastrous
results.
QUICK SCAN...
This film features numerous time travel sequences. The scenes,
with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd together, few though they
are, are the best scenes in the film. The FX, depicting the floating/flying
Delorean time car, are top quality. A highlight of the film involves
Fox observing himself during his PREVIOUS trip to the 50's.

SYNOPSIS...
After arriving back in 1985, Doc Brown shows up and whisks Marty to
2015. An Old Biff steals a futuristic sports almanac, disappearing
into the past with it.
Returning to 1985, Marty finds that the present has been changed for
the worse. Young Biff became rich, courtesy of the almanac that a
time traveling Old Biff gave him, in 1955. Marty travels back to 1955.
Marty gets the sports almanac back from Young Biff, changing 1985
back to normal. Marty receives a message from Doc Brown, who is now
in the Old West in 1885.

The Review:
Director Robert Zemeckis', BACK TO THE FUTURE 2, is an overly hyper,
and ultimately unsatisfying, Sci-Fi time travel yarn.
BACK TO THE FUTURE 2 exists primarily to lay the ground work leading
up to "Back to the Future 3". While "2" does serve
as a bridge between "Future 1" and "3", the resulting
movie is disappointing, particularly for fans of the original, "Back
to the Future".
The biggest problem with the script, (Screenplay by Bob Gale; Story
By Robert Zemeckis & Bob Gale), is that it jumps around in time
too much. We visit the 50's, and 80's, as well as the year, 2015.
Fortunately, the Delorean/time machine's Mr. Fusion reactor uses garbage
for power, thereby keeping the fuel bill down. Ultimately, all the
time traveling is more likely to give you a headache than entertain
you.
Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd still have fun and energy in
their scenes together. Unfortunately, they are apart for much of the
movie.
My favorite scene takes place in the 21st century. Shortly after arriving,
Fox, on an anti-gravity hover board, takes part in an exciting chase.
The FX during this sequence are excellent, as are shots of the flying/floating
Delorean time car. Ken Ralston is credited as Visual Effects Supervisor.
Director of Photography, Dean Cundey, does a fine job with the 50's
and the 80's scenes. The 21st century sequence visuals, however, are
grainy, garish, and unattractive. I have seen the future, and it looks
depressing.
The film's Music is upbeat and energetic, in keeping with the frenzied
on screen action. The Sci-Fi friendly Alan Silvestri composed the
peppy score.
BACK TO THE FUTURE 2 will be somewhat watchable for some Sci-Fi viewers.
Time travel nuts, and Fox or Lloyd fans may enjoy this one; for many
others, BACK TO THE FUTURE 2 is a bad trip!
