PLOT SUMMARY...
Following a trip to Saturn, an astronaut returns to Earth and begins to fall apart, literally.

QUICK SCAN...
This bad film is so weird that it really can't be compared to any other movie. Take my word on this! Alex Rebar, in the title role, gives a performance that's all over the map, so to speak. The film's FX are gooey, messy, and rather gross. Alert cinema buffs may spot Director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) in a small role. Highlights? None!

SYNOPSIS...
An astronaut travels to the planet Saturn. Returning to Earth, his flesh starts to melt 'cause of a weird disease he contracted during his voyage.

The astronaut discovers that eating human flesh prevents HIS flesh from melting, at least temporarily. He periodically munches on people. In between snacks, he continues to fall apart.

He is prevented from eating flesh. The astronaut melts away entirely.

Review:

Director William Sachs,' THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN, is an incredible mess of a Sci-Fi movie.

Alex Rebar is an astronaut who has been on a space mission to Saturn. When he returns to Earth, his flesh begins to melt because of a weird disease he contracted on his space mission.

Alex Rebar is not much of an actor. Then again, this isn't much of a movie.

The film's minimal plot has to do with astronaut Rebar feeding on people, to prevent his flesh from melting. Screenwriter Sachs is no better at his craft than Director Sachs.

The film's Special Effects are by Rick Baker and Harry Woolman, with Makeup by Rick Baker. While the FX and Makeup are good, the result is gross so it's kind of wasted effort.

Director of Photography, Willy Curtis, does the best he can under the circumstances. That's not saying much.

The Music, by Arlon Ober, is okay but it really doesn't matter in a lousy movie like this.

Director Jonathan Demme ("The Silence of the Lambs") has a small role in the film. He seems to be the only person involved whose career survived their involvement in this turkey!

THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN will not be very watchable for most Sci-Fi fans. It's probably too gross for small kids. THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN is an incredible waste of time.
