QUICK SCAN...
This film brings to mind, "The Terminator". Travel buffs will enjoy cinematic trips to both San Francisco and New York City. As Eve, the robot, Renee Soutendijk is certainly a lot sexier that R2 D2. Gregory Hines ("Wolfen") as a government sharp shooter, gives a profane, one note performance.

SYNOPSIS...
A "female" robot, named Eve, is built in the San Francisco Bay area. Shortly after it is tested out in public, it goes on a killing spree.

A top government sharpshooter/anti-mercenary is brought in to eliminate the fembot. "She" kills more people. The sharpshooter has a close encounter with the robot, but it gets away.

The sharpshooter tracks Eve to New York. He finally "kills" Eve underground, in New York's subway system.

Review:

Director Duncan Gibbions,' EVE OF DESTRUCTION, is a ho-hum effort that Sci-Fi fans will find difficult to embrace.

The chief premise of EVE OF DESTRUCTION involves a life-like robot, named Eve, who is loose in the San Francisco bay area with an atomic bomb in it's gut. While this premise does have potential, Director/Co-Writer, Duncan Gibbins, gives it the most ho-hum treatment possible.

Gregory Hines ("Wolfen") plays Jim McQuade, a top government sharpshooter/anti-terrorist. Usually an able performer, Hines here is reduced to mostly yelling and swearing. There's an edge of desperation to his performance, which is understandable, considering the nature of this project.

Co-star Renee Soutendijk ("Spetters") plays both the brilliant scientist who designed Eve, as well as the robot itself. Her performance amounts mostly to dressing conservatively as the scientist, and being sexy, as robot Eve. She isn't that convincing as the scientist, being sexy as the robot, or being a particularly good actress. Three strikes and you're out at the old film game.

The Screenplay, by Director Gibbins & Yale Vdoff, is rather flat. When Hines was informed that a bullet through either eye will terminate Eve, Hines lamely replies, "The eyes have it."

The Music, by Philippe Sarde, is overly bombastic.

The biggest problem with EVE OF DESTRUCTION is that the viewer knows way ahead of time that robot Eve will be stopped at the last moment and not nuclear destruct. As a result, the film lacks suspense, and, ultimately, any real reason to watch it all the way through to the predictable finale.

I had no favorite scene.

On a somber note, Director Gibbins died in the 1993 Malibu fire. He went back into his fire threatened dwelling, in an attempt to save his cat. Although he perished in the fire, the cat survived.

EVE OF DESTRUCTION was an atomic bomb at the box office, in it's theatrical release. If you value your family jewels, avoid this radioactive turkey at all costs. EVE OF DESTRUCTION will be watchable for few Sci-Fi fans.
