| ABOUT LIONEL BARRYMORE (1878
- 1954) American character actor who's the brother of Ethel and John Barrymore. Their only joint film appearance was in RASPUTIN AND THE EMPRESS. Lionel was the first Barrymore to win an acting Oscar. Lionel Barrymore has frequently claimed that A FREE SOUL was his favorite screen role. In addition, to being a popular and acclaimed actor he has directed films. In fact, in 1928-29 Lionel Barrymore received a Best Director Oscar nomination for MADAME X. Due to an accident, from 1938 Lionel Barrymore acted from a wheelchair.
