Barry Fitzgerald won his Supporting Oscar for playing Father Fitzgibbon the crusty pastor of a run-down church.


Bary Fitzgerald (1888 - 1961)

Irish actor who was trained to have a career in banking , but left it for acting in the 1920's and joined the world famous Abbey Players. Barry Fitzgerald's film Debut was in 1930 in an Alfred Hitchcock picture, "Juno and the Paycock" (1930). His successful career in Hollywood was that of a character actor. His brother was also an actor and the two worked together in 1952's "The Quiet Man"

It should be noted that Barry Fitzgerald was the only actor to get nominated for both the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for the same role.
