Jason Robards (1922 - 12/26/00) Is the son of actor Jason Robards Sr. After serving in World War II and being awarded the Navy Cross, Jason Robards studied acting at American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Jason Robards' big break though, did not occur until 1956, when he wowed critics and audiences alike with his preformance as Hickey in the Broadway production of "The Iceman Cometh." The next year the New York Drama Critics Award for his turn in "Long Day's Journey Into Night". Then in 1959 he won the Tony award for his work in "The Disenchanted" Jason Robards made his film debut in The Journey (1959), but did not appear agian in films until 1961. He won back to back Oscars for supporting actors and was nominated for a third for his the movie Melvin and Howard (80), in which he played Howard Hughes. OTher career highlights include a rare starring role for him as an alcoholic uncle in A Thousand Clowns (1965), a general in Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970), and as Steve Martin's father in Parenthood (1989). Married four times, Jason Robards is the father of several children,some
of which who have also persued acting. His third wife was actress
Lauren Becall, to whom he was married to for eight years. In 1972
he had a near fatal car accident, a result of his then drinking habits,when
he crashed his car into the side of a hill. He recovered after many
extensive surgeries. Jason Robards died of lung cancer in 2000. THE ICEMAN COMETH |
